KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The approval of the gathering related to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) will be decided at a Cabinet meeting, announced the mayor from Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan.
He said that until now, he has not yet received the request for authorization from the organizers of the peaceful rally to be held at Dataran Merdeka on December 8th.
"There is no (application) … (do they already have the license?) Not yet. We will wait for the Cabinet later, "he told reporters after attending the agency's appreciation ceremony on Wednesday, November 28.
He said this when he was invited to comment on a massive rally involving members of PAS and Umno on December 8, despite the government's decision not to ratify ICERD on November 23.
Saturday, November 24, the president of the Umno, Datuk Seri, Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reportedly said that the rally would continue in order to say "thank you" to the decision of the government.
According to Sinar Harian's report published on Sunday, November 25, the Minister of the Federal Territories, Khalid Abdul Samad, stressed that the meeting could not be held at Dataran Merdeka if it gathered a million people, because the place could not accommodate as much of participants. . – Bernama
