SUBANG JAYA: A lawyer and his accomplice involved in Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple here were placed in pretrial detention for three days.

"In total, we arrested 30 people in connection with this case," he told reporters at the Subang Jaya police headquarters on Wednesday (November 28th).

He added that the nine new arrests took place around Selangor on Wednesday afternoon.

A riot occurred around the temple on Monday after a group of thugs entered the compound to threaten the worshipers.

Several guards then contacted their friends and about 200 Indian men rushed and cordoned off the temple.

When the police arrived, the intruders tried to escape and a clash erupted between the two groups.

The police chief of Selangor, Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor (peak) stated that the pre-trial detention of the lawyer and the accomplice had been extended in order to facilitate subsequent investigations.

He stated that he was aware of allegations that 150,000 RM were allegedly paid to the leader of the thugs.

"We are studying the question.

He also said the police were investigating that one of the arrested suspects had a criminal record.

According to Comm Mazlan, firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, a firefighter, was reportedly shot by a fire engine and said he was being investigated.
Muhammad Adib was first admitted to the Ramsay Sime Darby Health Center's intensive care unit after being injured in the line of duty around 1 am on Tuesday, 27 November.

He was part of a team of nine firefighters responding to a fire at Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman's Temple, in USJ 25, where rioters were protesting his move.

"We take statements from witnesses and invite anyone with information to make themselves known.

"There are many claims and allegations about this, let's get to the bottom of things," he said.

He added that 500 people were on duty, including plainclothes detectives and US Federal Reserve personnel at the scene, to maintain law and order.

He added that the police would stay in the area to maintain order as the situation would require.

He said several young people had been arrested around the temple for failing to comply with the police order to disperse early Wednesday morning.

"We arrested them for crime prevention purposes and then released them," he said.

The temple was moved on November 22nd. It is planned to do this since 2007 after the land where it was located was purchased by One City Development Sdn Bhd.

In 2014, a consent judgment was delivered in court, where a city and two rival camps fighting for control of the temple agreed to move him to a plot of land 3 km away.

One city also donated RM 1.5 million to the temple as part of the settlement agreement.

However, the faithful continued to resist efforts to move the temple, built in 1891.
Comm Mazlan stated that anyone with information on the case could contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or 012-600 9999.
