According to Saravanan, legal assistance will be provided to temple officials, victims and even uniformed officials.
"There are even some faithful who have been arrested, so we must give them legal assistance.
"Everyone will benefit from free legal assistance, even uniformed officials if needed," said the president at a press conference in Parliament on Wednesday (November 28th). He was accompanied by a team of lawyers.
Saravanan said the lawyers are currently studying the case closely and will provide legal assistance if necessary.
He added that the free legal aid initiative had been launched as a result of a decision by MIC chairman, Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran.
"MIC also helped those who were kept in the hospital after being attacked by thugs.
"Some of them can not even afford their hospitalization fees until today. MIC will help reduce treatment costs, "he said.
The 100-year-old Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple was the scene of problems following the court's decision to move a few kilometers from its current site.
The temple sits on land owned by One City Development, a subsidiary of MCT Bhd, which is listed on Bursa Malaysia.
On Wednesday, Interior Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin launched a bombshell when he announced that the developer's lawyers had hired thugs to "take care of everything" on the site.
However, One City Development has since stated that she "categorically denies hiring or authorized the hiring of thugs to start temple riots".
In commenting on the case, Saravanan said that if these allegations are true, then it is an offense under the law.
"It's an offense because not only did they bring in aliens, but even thugs, where the faithful were threatened with a machete and the like," he added.
About twenty people were arrested Monday, November 26 in connection with riots at the temple.
