Premier League clubs spent a record £ 419.5 million on the last transfer in January.
These contracts included Virgil van Dijk's signing of £ 75 million in Liverpool and the transfer of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho left the Reds to make his expected transfer to Barcelona for a fee of 142 million pounds.
This is another great source of expense since the clubs, whether they occupy one goal or the other, are looking for a boost for the second half of the season.
TalkSPORT.com looks at the 10 biggest transfers in the Premier League that could take place in the January 2019 transfer window.
Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)
Linked clubs: Arsenal, Liverpool
Value: £ 75 million
The young French striker was ruled out of Barcelona's first leg against Real Betis earlier this month. He had apparently irritated the Barcelona chefs after failing to inform them that he would miss training with a stomach virus on the Thursday preceding the match.
He had a late mini-resurgence, scoring a tying goal against Atletico Madrid, his La Liga rival on Saturday. However, his future at Camp Nou looks bleak.
Barcelona would like to recover most of the 96 million pounds paid for Dembele last year, but Arsenal and Liverpool could offer slightly lower fees.
Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund)
Linked clubs: Chelsea, Liverpool
Value: £ 70 million
Pulisic will discuss his future at Borussia Dortmund in January. Chelsea and Liverpool are waiting in the wings if the American international, whose contract expires in 2020, decides to leave.
The 20-year-old athlete was overtaken by English winger Jadon Sancho in the rank order of the Bundesliga club.
Dortmund's sports director Michael Zorc insisted that Pulisic would remain in Germany until the end of the season, but if his playing time did not improve, he could force his move to the Premier League.
Alexis Sanchez (Manchester United)
Related Clubs: Paris Saint-Germain
Value: £ 40 million
It has been almost a year since Sanchez left Arsenal for Old Trafford. He scored only four goals in 30 appearances, losing the confidence of his coach José Mourinho.
The Chilean has been eliminated in major matches against Manchester City and Chelsea this season and was not even in the team against Young Boys on Tuesday night.
He has three and a half years left on his £ 500,000 weekly contract, which allows him to increase his market value. But if there is a club to get an expensive transaction, it's the PSG.
Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
Linked clubs: Manchester United
Value: £ 25 million
The Red Devils have been linked to the captain of Atletico Madrid towards the end of the summer transfer window. Mourinho desperately needs to strengthen his defense and you can understand why – they conceded 21 goals in the league this season – the best of all top 10 clubs.
Godin's contract expires at the end of the season and he has not yet signed an extension, leaving the door open for United.
The 32-year-old, considered one of the best defensemen in the world, would tighten the backline that leaked from United.
Frenkie de Jong (Ajax)
Linked clubs: Manchester City, Man United
Value: £ 60 million
De Jong has been compared to Johan Cruyff, legend of Barcelona. He started the four matches of the Netherlands League of Nations after winning their group to qualify for next year's semi-finals.
The defensive midfielder, the 21-year-old, could learn from Fernandinho, the mainstay of Manchester City, if he completes his expected transfer to Etihad.
City would prepare to offer 70 million euros to Ajax, plus 20 million euros of additions to its star actor.
Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax)
Linked clubs: Manchester United, Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool
Value: £ 60 million
De Ligt is guarded by the best Premier League clubs.
At the age of 19, he is captain of Ajax and a member of the Dutch national team. His international defensive partner, Van Dijk, even believes that Liverpool is watching him.
It seems that De Ligt will be spoiled for choice during his next move.
Eric Bailly (Manchester United)
Linked clubs: Arsenal, Tottenham
Value: £ 25 million
Bailly started the season as Manchester United's first-choice center, but fell out of favor with Mourinho.
In his previous two league games, he conceded a penalty in a 3-2 loss to Brighton, before being eliminated after 19 minutes of play while United led a 2-0 home in Newcastle .
Phil Jones was named to United's bench in front of Bailly for his scoreless draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday, which proves how much the Ivorian has fallen.
It is said that Arsenal and Tottenham adore Bailly, whose days at Old Trafford seem counted.
Samir Nasri (free agent)
Related Clubs: West Ham
Value: Free
Nasri trains with the Hammers in order to win a contract. The doping ban imposed on the French for 18 months ends on January 1 st.
He has worked with West Ham's boss, Manuel Pellegrini, in Manchester City – and the Chilean wants to sign it up – he proves that he is in good shape.
"If he has no injuries by January, when he will be able to play, I think he can be fit without a problem," said Pellegrini. "It depends on the work he's going to do. The most important thing is not to try to do it too fast. "
Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon)
Related Clubs: Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton
Value: £ 40 million
Ndombele became one of the European stars of the breakthrough after impressing in the Champions League.
The France midfielder scored in two consecutive matches and played in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night.
Arsenal and Everton reportedly sent scouts to monitor Ndombele in action this term.
Andreas Christensen (Chelsea)
Related Clubs: AC Milan
Value: £ 20 million
Christensen is still waiting to make an appearance in the Premier League under Maurizio Sarri. He expressed dissatisfaction over his playing time after falling from David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Gary Cahill in a hierarchical order.
AC Milan is tied to the Danish defender and could sign it on loan with a call option at the end of the campaign.
