The Mi 8 Lite is the first Xiaomi device to offer a gradient paint job. It uses the so-called nano-sputtering process that also created the gradient back of the Huawei P20 Pro. But there is more than that: the back of the Mi 8 Lite is actually a clear glass that, when placed on a dark surface, produces a gradient effect. But how is it going?
Xiaomi explains that the designers had a hard time producing the gradient and that the key is in the clear glass panel. It is subjected to many layers of coating forming a difference in thickness to the nano-scale on the surface, which is not visible to the naked eye but when placed on a dark surface and in the right lighting conditions, the color starts to change.
Xiaomi even released a video showcasing the effect (on the source link below) and said that users can remove the rear window and see for themselves if they do not believe it. Although it is certainly not recommended.
