The former Goldman Sachs leader, Roger Ng, will be extradited to the United States of America, if the country requests it, said Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
"If the United States requests the extradition of Ng, we will send it to America," said Mahathir quoted by Bernama after presiding yesterday a meeting of the Bersatu Supreme Council in Selangor.
He added that any action against Ng, if any, had to be taken in the United States because it was there that the alleged offense had occurred.
Ng, whose full name is Ng Chong Hwa, was arrested here on November 1 as a result of a US arrest warrant.
This came after indictments filed by the US Justice Department against Ng, the fugitive financier Jho Low and his fellow Goldman Sachs banker, Tim Leissner, as part of the billion-dollar ringgit 1MBD scandal.
According to the prosecution documents, the Justice Ministry claimed that Ng had conspired to launder billions of dollars diverted from 1MDB and conspiring to violate the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
It was later reported that Ng was to be deportee back to the United States to face the charges.
However, Amar Singh, director of Bukit Aman's commercial crime investigation department, said the DOJ should ensure that the extradition documentation process is proceeding normally. completed in the 60-day pre-trial detention order.
