SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari assured today that the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Seafield, Subang Jaya, would not be relocated until all parties concerned had reached a solution.
He added that talks between the state government, Indian MPs Pakatan Harapan and members of the temple committee, among others, would start next Tuesday at the latest.
"The state government will find a win-win solution to this problem," he said at a press conference on the subject in state government premises.
He urged the population to remain calm and warned against any further demonstrations in the temple area.
He added that the state government would abide by any court decisions and wait for the hearing of the removal order.
This decision follows the ruling of the Shah Alam High Court released earlier in the day, which rejected an offer to postpone the relocation of the temple.
Amirudin also denied media reports that the state government would buy the land on which the temple is located, saying it would be premature.
"We have to look at the costs," he said, adding that the government did not want to set a precedent in this case.
He added that Islam teaches respect for all.
Ministers of Public Health Kulasegaran, Waytha Moorthy and Xavier Jayakumar were also present at the press conference, along with the state exco V Ganabatirau of Selangor.
Amirudin said that he was discussing with the state officers the resolution of the problem.
"We have organized security meetings at the state level to find solutions," he said, calling on the population to remain calm and not to organize an assembly.
He also warned against any form of provocative statement and called on all parties to comply with police instructions to maintain peace and public order, adding that the police would act against anyone convicted of 39, breaking the law.
He stated that there were several options for the temple to be relocated or remain at its current location, but emphasized the importance of reaching an amicable solution.
When asked what they would do if the discussions failed, he replied, "Give him a chance first." Let's start with the discussions.
"Everyone will have a fair deal in Selangor."
At the same time, Xavier reminded citizens not to use social media to criticize or create racial tensions, adding that the government was monitoring the situation.
