The former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, Mohamad Hasan, filed an appeal against the decision of the Electoral Court to invalidate the result of the vote for the seat in Rantau.
He stated that the appeal had been filed in Federal Court this morning. The 14-day appeal period ended tonight.
"The decision to appeal was made after a careful examination of the oral judgment (of the electoral court) and of the lawyers.
"It's also for me to exonerate allegations of wrongdoing on the day of appointment for the 14th general election," he said, quoted by Utusan online.
Hasan, who is also Vice President of Umno, won the seat after the PKR candidate, Dr. S Streram, was not allowed to file his nomination paper on April 28, at reason that he did not have a pass for the electoral commission (EC).
On November 16, the Seremban Electoral Court annulled the results and ordered the holding of a by-election.
The court ruled that there was no written law or requirement for a candidate and his or her sponsor or author to have a pass to enter the nomination center.
In her judgment, Judge Azimah Omar also reprimanded the European Commission's returning officer, Amino Agus Suyub, for failing to follow the rules by preventing the PKR candidate from entering, knowing that Streram was outside the appointment center.
The judge also reprimanded Amino Agus for lying and found it contemptuous to have tried to bring a witness. She had sentenced him to three months in prison, but the case is on appeal.
Yesterday, the electoral commission declared that it was attractive against the finding of facts in the decision of the Electoral Court.
