Oppo announces the unveiling of its own foldable phone next February

The foldable phones arrive and the Chinese handset maker, Oppo, is the last to join the fray. A product manager for the company confirmed on the Dutch technological site Tweakers that Oppo would bring a foldable smartphone to the Mobile World Congress next February.

No details were provided on the specifications or even on a release date. It is therefore quite possible that it is a prototype and is not ready for sale. But we know that Oppo is interested in this area. The company has patented a number of folding phone models in recent years, including a device that folds out twice to triple the size of its screen.

Oppo will join a number of phone makers who have decided that foldable screens will be the next big thing on mobile. Samsung has already introduced its first folding screen with an Infinity Flex display (expected to go on sale in March 2019 at an incredible price); Huawei has already launched its own foldable phone. and Lenovo and Xiaomi made fun of their own prototypes. Importantly, Google has granted its blessing to this new wave of foldable devices with the official support of Android for their changing display.

It remains to be seen whether foldable phones will or will not prove to be a legitimate trend. But for businesses looking for attention in the competitive mobile phone industry, the opportunity to jump on the train is too good to pass.
