SUBANG JAYA: Bukit Aman will not hesitate to take tough measures against anyone who threatens to arouse racial feelings.
Datuk Asmawati Ahmad, communication manager at Bukit Aman, said the police had found several false reports on various platforms manipulating the problem of relocating Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to the USJ25.
"We detected a voice note from WhatsApp that gangsters were randomly beaten on people around the temple and invited the public not to go out at night.
"We also intercepted another vocal note urging Malaysians to get ready with sharp weapons to deal with the December 8 meeting, during which a so-called clash between the races will take place.
"A message on WhatsApp also circulated claiming that Bukit Aman had issued a warning about random attacks perpetrated at Subang Jaya, Puchong, Klang and Old Klang Road after 9:00 pm, as well as manipulated footage to make it appear that there was troubles all over the country., "she said in a statement Thursday, November 29.
She added that this false information being broadcast had created unnecessary concern about the state of public order and had affected racial sentiments and religious sensibilities within our diverse community here.
"We advise the public not to easily believe such potentially disturbing information and to invite the reactions of any party that felt threatened by such statements.
"We enjoy great freedom of speech, but we must remember that these rights and freedoms have their limits and that they can not be used for concealed purposes," she said, adding that no one had to act or make provocative statements that could lead to unrest.
The Asmawati SAC also assured that peace and public order would be maintained.
"We will take tough measures against anyone who will attempt to provoke unrest, divide the community and play with the peaceful state of our country.
"We also want to take this opportunity to reiterate Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad's statement that the riots that took place did not concern racial or religious issues, but constituted a criminal act that should leave no room for ruin. unity and race relations in Malaysia, "she said.
