TEXAS (Daily Filipino Inquiry / Asia News Network): Some banks in Texas, USA, were proud of Christmas when a cash machine (ATM) erroneously distributed 100 tickets instead of 10 dollars.
Bank of America said yesterday, November 26, that it was aware of the mistake made at the ABM in Houston, reported by KPRC-TV the same day.
The bank said it solved the problem and that customers could keep the extra bills they had received.
In Texas, United States, bank customers took Christmas at the earliest when a cash dispenser (ATM) erroneously distributed $ 100 bills instead of $ 10.
"It was an incident at a single ATM in Houston, caused by a supplier who incorrectly charged $ 100 bills instead of $ 10 bills," the bank said in a statement.
"We solved the problem. Customers will be able to keep the extra money distributed. "
The authorities said that if the bank had asked for the refund and the customers refused to return the invoices, those who took advantage of the incident would have been charged with theft.
"There is no free meal," Sgt. Joshua Nowick of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said the financial crimes section in the report.
"If you receive money that you know is not yours and you refuse to return it upon request, you may, at the prosecutor's discretion, be charged with theft."
Apparently, the error was discovered on Sunday, November 25, after a man pulled money out of the ATM machine. The man was surprised when instead of spitting $ 20, the ATM distributed a $ 100 bill.
The ecstatic man published the incident on social media, according to the report. His message became viral, prompting people to go to the said ATM machine to get their hands on extra money.
People were able to take advantage of the incident for two hours before the Public Security Service soldier alerted the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities dispersed impatient customers during the resolution of the problem. – Philippine Daily Inquirer / Asia News Network
