WWE approached Survivor Series as if she was late for homework, so she was rebuilding her during the bus ride to the school. Roman Reigns' announcement about leukemia and the ensuing pause was a tremendous success for everyone involved, especially Joe Anoa'i. But WWE still had to reconfigure a big puzzle for Survivor Series and beyond.
Vince McMahon did not want to see AJ Styles vs. Roman Reigns at Survivor Series, so the initial intention was not to become brand-name. Therefore, this new scenario idea may not return to the picture before the beginning of next year. But there were a lot more holes in the ground than the WWE left uncovered.
Becky Lynch chose Charlotte Flair as a successor to the Survivor series. After a competitive match, she ended the match via DQ with several kendo sticks and one game loss. This usually indicates a change of stub, but it was not the case on SmackDown Live the following week. Meanwhile, Daniel Bryan played in a baby-face role against Brock Lesnar, but The New Daniel Bryan was his same old heel shot the following week, with no explanation.
Dave Meltzer told Wrestling Observer radio that this is what he had been told about the Survivor Series this year because apparently nothing was supposed to be of importance.
"I think the only thing about Survivor Series is a little what I've been saying before, that is, you have to accept the idea that it does not matter and that everything returns to normal after. "
With this logic, Charlotte Flair did not turn her back when she attacked Ronda Rousey in Los Angeles. But on the other hand, Daniel Bryan, who worked mostly as a babyface Survivor Series, was still a heel because he had turned on SmackDown Live the week before.
Only time will tell what the WWE has planned for the future of the product, but we have heard that at least one idea created at Survivor Series might not come back until next year. This is certainly an interesting note on the internal thinking of WWE regarding its traditional Big 4 pay-per-views.
