PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The court of appeal authorized lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (November 29) (peak) to intervene in the appeal of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding his civil action (against Anwar) against the government for his conviction for sodomy.

On June 9, 2017, Anwar, chairman of the PKR, summoned the government to appear, claiming that he had not benefited from a fair trial at the call of his conviction for sodomy II.

The Federal Court upheld the conviction of Anwar and sentenced him to five years in prison for sodomizing his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Anwar, however, received complete thanks from the king on May 16 of this year.
On November 8, the Kuala Lumpur High Court struck down his subpoena, which allowed the government to present his claim on the grounds that the case had no cause for action and that It was an abuse of the judicial process.
