The government has suggested the creation of a Hindu endowment council at the national level to manage Hindu temples in the country.
Human Resources Minister Kulasegaran made the suggestion following the recent riots this week following a promoter's attempt to move Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to the USJ, Subang Jaya. .
Kulasegaran was city by Free Malaysia today saying that there was no particular body with the power or authority to monitor the temples all over the country.
"The council will not take temples, but it should have the power to ask the temples to be transparent and reveal their accounts," he said.
The legislator of the DAP also suggested that such a body be placed under the authority of the Prime Minister.
Early Monday morning, a group of intruders allegedly sent to the temple to gain control of the area for a resettlement process sparked a riot after worshipers gathered to protect the temple clashed.
Tensions over the initial riot increased until the following night when rioters, who had gathered under the pretext of defending the temple, attacked and seriously injured a firefighter.
