Man City boss Pep Guardiola laughed and wondered if he was considering changing his mind after the defeats at Crystal Palace and Leicester.

City lost ground in the Premier League after two unlikely defeats, while Liverpool title rivals took full advantage 10 points ahead of City, who will face Southampton at St Mary's today before facing Liverpool at home on Jan. 3.

Guardiola is well known for his refusal to leave his tactical approach and laughed when asked if he thought he could do it now – perhaps an understandable answer given all that City did last season by breaking several records of Premier League.

"Oh, I was waiting for this question," Guardiola said. "I was waiting for it later. It will not happen. It did not happen the first year, it will not happen.

"Why should I? Because I've lost two games? In no way. That certainly will not happen.

Instead, Guardiola emphasized the importance of hard work and conviction, and expressed confidence that City can reach new heights.

"Football is unpredictable," he said. "You can lose two and three, and four, five. It can happen. Tomorrow we can lose, again against Liverpool and still in FA Cup.

"From my experience, when that happens, it's up to everyone to look in the mirror and work harder. After that, you win one or two, everyone comes back and everything becomes normal. "
