The former coach of the AC Milan attacker, Krzysztof Piatek, said the Polish international had rejected the interest shown by Real Madrid to settle in San Siro.
Piatek has scored four goals in four games with the Rossoneri since arriving at the end of January – including third in Milan's 3-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday night.
However, Michal Probierz, who was his coach at Cracovia, believes that Real Madrid was also vying for Piatek's signing.
"Up to here, he has moved well and taken all necessary steps to become a great player at the international level," said Probierz. The Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I'm sure that now Milan will be one of the top four clubs in Serie A. He will become a worthy star for Real Madrid in the future.
"I really think the directors of Real regret not having tried enough to buy it in January. They really thought about him, but Milan wanted him more.
"For Italian fans, especially those of Rossoneri, it's great because they can admire it every weekend.
"I'm sure that with his character and his attitude towards all aspects of the game, he will be one of the greatest attackers of his generation."
