KUALA LUMPUR: V Sivakumar, head of the Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretariat, today tabled a police report alleging attempts to overthrow the leadership of President Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Sivakumar, who is also a member of Batu Gajah, said he had reported at Dang Wangi Police Station here this afternoon.
"There have been media reports of former Perak MB (Zambry Abdul Kadir) and Umno State Liaison President, Saarani Mohamad, on attempts to overthrow the government of Perak, elected by the people through the democratic process.
"Saarani claimed that members of the state exco wanted to overthrow the leaders of Perak MB by contacting at least five members of the Umno, with various offers to support a vote of no confidence against Faizal," he said in the Parliament Hall.
Sivakumar said the police report had been drawn up for a thorough investigation to be conducted and that steps be taken against the guilty parties to ensure that a plot to overthrow the state government will not happen again.
Yesterday, Perak DAP President Nga Kor Ming confirmed the existence of a plot to overthrow Faizal.
He stated that this was based on the revelation of Asmuni Awi, member of the exco party for the Islamic religion and education, and the development of entrepreneurs and rural people, who would have been approached by some Perak leaders Umno who would have offered him the post of menteri besar and urged him to leave form a new state government.
Sivakumar said the issue had become a hot topic not only among politicians but also among the public.
"We received a lot of calls from ordinary people who wanted to know what was going on in Perak. We want to know the truth, which is why we need to do a thorough investigation of this issue, because we do not want it to prolong and derail the population, "he said.
