PETALING JAYA: Minister of Housing and Local Government, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said the firefighter who had been attacked at the scene of a violent protest was recovering well and that he was out of danger.

In a tweet, she said that Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim had "crossed the danger zone".

"If yesterday her chances of survival were 40%, they are now 70%," she said, adding that doctors had moved on to the next phase of treatment.

Adib, 24, was seriously injured in the assault Tuesday morning.

He was part of the team of firefighters who rushed to the USJ 25 following a protest against the relocation of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, during which rioters torched vehicles.

He was dragged out of the emergency medical rescue service vehicle and assaulted.

He was first taken to the Subang Jaya Medical Center and then transferred to the National Institute of Cardiology.

The Malaysian Advisory Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST), meanwhile, criticized those who attacked Adib, calling the attack "scandalous".

Adding that the firefighter's actions were aimed at protecting others from danger, he stated that it was unacceptable that he had been attacked.

"The MCCBCHST calls on all Malaysians to keep Adib in our good thoughts and prayers."
