KUALA LUMPUR: The government will decide whether or not to allow a rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), said Kuala Lumpur Mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan.
He said that until now, he had received no candidacies from the rally organizer, which was to take place at Dataran Merdeka on 8 December.
"We will wait for the Cabinet decision later," he told reporters after attending the city hall's thank you ceremony held today.
He said this when he was asked to comment on a planned rally, which will also be attended by members of PAS and Umno, despite the government's decision not to ratify ICERD.
On Saturday, Umno's president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reportedly said the rally would "thank" the government for its decision.
According to Sinar Harian, the Minister of the Federal Territories, Khalid Abdul Samad, said that he would not allow the rally to Dataran Merdeka if it involved a million people, the site could not accommodate a so large number of people.
