Esports SEA Games

The 30th SEA Games to be held in the Philippines next year have included the esport as the official event. The announcement was made by the Organizing Committee of the Philippines Games, South East Asia (PhilSGOC), in partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee and Razer as an official sports partner.

There will be a total of six gold medals for Esports which are also awarded for console, PC and mobile categories. For now, Mobile Legends:Stroke Bang has been confirmed as one of the esports titles and the full list will be finalized by December 15, 2018. Other game titles such as Dota 2 and League of Legends should be included. Esports in SEA Games is accredited by the Asian Federation of Electronic Sports.

According to Razer's General Manager, Min-Liang Tan, they have been in talks with the Games Committee to make Esports a recognized medal event. They are also delighted to be an official partner for the upcoming SEA 2019 Games.

It is interesting to note that esports were included in the 2018 Asian Games, but it was not a medal event. After the inclusion of esport in the SEA games, it is possible that it will be included as a sporting event at the next Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
