Gareth Southgate reveals his biggest fear while the England manager is cooked by children

Gareth Southgate: Well, I am here today to launch the manual "We are only doing the right thing". I am pleased to answer your questions.

Member of the public: A coach must create a positive environment. How did you make the England team smile at the World Cup?

Southgate: Our environment is quite relaxed and they can have fun with a group of friends. They can be themselves and have fun while playing football.

Member of the public: You tell young players not to be scared, but I'm a little afraid of spiders. Are you afraid of something?

Southgate: (Laughs) Well I'm a little afraid of heights.

Member of the public: I am also.

Member of the publicWhen we misbehave, we lack recreation. How do you discipline your players?

Southgate: Well, they must miss recess (audience laughter). What makes you laugh?

Member of the public: Why is it important that your players try things without fearing failure?

Southgate: Everyone should try to be the best possible and even if it does not, you are actually learning things that are wrong.

Member of the public: Who was the manager when England won the World Cup?

Southgate: Do you know the answer to that?

Member of the public: No.

Another member of the public: Yes.

Southgate: Do you?

Member of the public: You.

Southgate: Oh, well almost, almost.

Member of the public: What are you doing to encourage your players to perform well in the field?

Southgate: We talk a lot to players just to be brave enough to try things. Do not worry if you make mistakes.

Member of the public: Our Father Professor M. Smedley is our football coach. Can you give me some advice that I can tell him?

Southgate: Is he a good football coach?

Member of the publicHe never shouts at people.

Another member of the public: Well he does.

Southgate: (Laughs) Well, that's what we said, is not it? Because he's nice to people. So I just want to tell Mr. Smedley to continue doing what you're doing because you're obviously doing a very good job.

Member of the public: You said that everything is possible. I want to be a football coach one day. Can I do this?

Southgate: Yes you can.
