KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian company claimed to have been deceived by a Malaysian businessman bearing the acronym "Datuk Seri", for a total of 33 million USD (138 million RM) related to a project of oil and gas project in Aceh, Indonesia.
The company, PT Anglo Slavic Utama (PT ASU), through its representative, Ronie Tangkong, who is also a director, said in a statement today that the Datuk Seri had falsified several agreements and statements for its own interest in a commercial agreement between PT ASU and its company.
"A police report was also filed on November 2, 2018 by PT ASU against Datuk Seri at the Selangor Police Headquarters," the company said.
On November 3, 2012, Global Capital Limited (GCL) and Datuk Seri signed an agreement for an oil and gas development and production project in Kuala Simpang Timur, Aceh, Indonesia.
PT ASU has appointed and authorized GCL to sell and manage its assets (PT ASU). It was claimed that the agreement had been signed at the invitation of Datuk Seri.
The agreement provided for $ 55 million (RM 230 million), which allowed the Datuk Seri-owned company to acquire the assets of PT ASU. A total amount of USD 22 million (RM 92 million) was paid to PT ASU.
"The ASU PT was used as a bait by the Datuk Seri to entice investors and get what he wanted, after which he ignored the ASU PT," the statement said.
According to the previous agreement, the Datuk Seri had asked the GCL to seek investors to take over the shares of an open company where he (the Datuk Seri) was working.
"An asset purchase agreement from PT ASU was signed at a Petaling Jaya hotel on December 28, 2012 between Datuk Seri and a representative of PT ASU, one of its Indonesian directors. The parties agreed to the conditions because they would bring benefits through oil and gas projects.
"However, the agreement was subsequently canceled by Datuk Seri and resulted in a loss of $ 33 million for our company.
"The Datuk Seri had malicious intent in associating with the director who had represented the company in the previous agreement by amending the terms of the original agreement signed on November 3, 2012.
"Both also made a false statutory declaration and the statement was the reason for the cancellation of the agreement reached on December 28, 2012," the statement added.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Selangor police, contacted by Bernama, confirmed receiving the report and added that the case was under police investigation.
