TCOent made an official statement regarding the fraud charges against Ma Dong Seok's father.
On November 29, SBS funE announced that Ma Dong Seok's father (85) had embezzled 500 million won (about $ 445,000) from the alleged victim's pension fund (83). According to the report, the victim was a peer of his father's high school.
The report stated that the victim had found Ma Dong Seok's father in 2010 and considered him a friend. His father reportedly told the victim, "Do not even trust your family in your old age. When you leave this land, I will arrange everything "and soon have received all the savings of the victim.
After losing all her savings to Ma Dong Seok's father in just one year, the victim suffered a stroke and has been hospitalized ever since. The victim's nephews learned of the existence of the case years later and sued Ma Dong Seok's father in June 2016. Despite the loss of receipts and many other relevant documents, nearly 300 million (about 267,000 USD) of the 500 million won (about 445,000 USD) that his father had taken was recognized as a fraud. Ma Dong Seok's father was later sentenced to two years and six months in prison. However, after taking into account his father's great age, the court decided to impose a four-year suspended sentence.
When asked why they made this report, the victim's relative stated that it was because Ma Dong Seok's father had never apologized after this ordeal. They said, "We have heard that 200 million won (about $ 178,000) were filed late at trial, but what is the use of that for our aunt? "In 2010, Ma Dong Seok's father had planned to return the money he had received for commercial investments, but as there were false elements as to the amount of money, the [two parties] started bringing the case to trial. We confirmed to Ma Dong Seok's father and his lawyer, as well as to the decision of his sentence, that Ma Dong Seok's father had finished repaying the money due to him.
"No matter the reasons, the actor Ma Dong Seok nods to apologize to everyone for causing problems in this test.
"If other problems arise, Ma Dong Seok will fully assume legal and moral responsibility as a son towards [resolving the issue] with the victims. The agency will also do its best to resolve this problem amicably. "
