Thibaut Courtois would choose Eden Hazard before Neymar as a blockbuster signing for Real Madrid this year.
Courtois played alongside his Belgian international teammate for four seasons at Chelsea before joining the Santiago Bernabeu last August.
The Spanish capital has often been touted as a future destination by Hazard, who has not yet decided to join the Premier League club after the end of next season.
The activity of the Madrid market has somewhat contradicted the Galacticos era with recent transfers. Acting head coach Santiago Solari and his predecessor Julen Lopetegui said the effects of Cristiano Ronaldo had not been replaced after his departure for Juventus in July.
The former star of Barcelona, Neymar, would remain a target of Madrid, but Courtois thinks that his compatriot would do better.
In an interview with the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the 26-year-old goalkeeper said: "I [would] choose Eden, of course. I really like it a lot, but the choice belongs to the board of directors.
"I do not know what will happen, it's not a question for me, but for the president and management.
"The team is what it is now, Karim Benzema is in good shape and has 17 goals." [Gareth] Bale started well, but then had to deal with injuries.
"You see in matches that we have quality, but sometimes it's not possible to score."

Barcelona is 10 points better than third place in Madrid, ahead of La Liga and in pole position to retain its title.
The Catalan club has operated with a much more expansive transfer policy than its bitter rivals, especially since the departure of Neymar's world record for PSG in August 2017, to the tune of 222 million euros.
Nevertheless, Courtois do not see their recruitment continue at such a pace due to the requirements of the UEFA Financial Fair Play Rules.
"We do not have to watch the other teams, we have to look at ourselves," he said. "We have to build a new team.
"Who knows [whether] the other teams are going to have trouble with the rules of financial fair play?
"If you see that Barcelona has already spent twice as much as it has received for Neymar, they may have to sell again soon."
