MPs unite to seek a solution to the Seafield Temple problem

KUALA LUMPUR: In a rare moment, lawmakers on both sides of the political divide are united in their resolve to solve the problem of relocating Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

Pursuant to Standing Order 18 (1), two legislators today presented motions requesting the adjournment of the Dewan Rakyat to discuss an important matter. A motion was made by Barisan Nasional, MP for Beluran, Ronald Kiandee, and Fahmi Fadzil MPP Lembah Pantai from Pakatan Harapan.

If the motion was accepted by the speaker, lawmakers said the current debate would be postponed to a later date to allow the temple issue to be debated on Thursday.

At a joint press conference in Parliament, Mr Fahmi said the deputies on both sides were joining forces to preserve national harmony.

"We urge Malaysians to be patient and not to release unverified information via social media. It would only make things worse, "he said.

Tanjung Karang MP Noh Omar said that the people of Selangor should unite to preserve peace and ignore political differences.

"Do not mix politics in this area, we must have a united spirit. I would like to remind everyone not to pour oil on the fire because a fire will not make the difference between the races, "he said.

The Klang MP, Charles Santiago, assured that all efforts were currently being made by the Selangor State Government, adding that Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari was currently in a meeting to find the best solution to this problem.
