KUALA LUMPUR: The defense in Datuk Seri case Najib Tun Razak was "irresponsible" for filing a petition to challenge the appointment of the chief prosecutor Datuk Sulaiman Abdullah (peak) at the eleventh hour, the High Court heard.

Sulaiman, who was appointed by the Attorney General's office as chief prosecutor in the Najib case for abusing Rs 42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, said the defense should have filed the claim as early as first day of the case.

"We have just received the application (to challenge the appointment). It should be done the first day, "he told the press conference on Thursday.

Sulaiman also informed the court that the prosecution would make a preliminary objection to the challenge of his appointment.

Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, has asked the court to hear the appeal against Sulaiman's appointment by fiat (authorization), as well as the request for discovery of documents, which includes witness statements. .

"I am sure Your Honor would like to speed up these two incidental cases," he said.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali then set 18 December to hear both requests.

On July 4, Najib was charged with three counts of breach of trust and one charge of abuse of power involving funds from SRC International, for a total amount of RMB 42 million.

Subsequently, on August 8, Najib was charged with three counts of money laundering involving the same funds.
