This is the new third generation Nissan Versa sedan (N18), unveiled at the Tortuga's Rock the Ocean music festival in anticipation of its appearance at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). What you are looking at here is probably the basis of the next generation of Almera, and it is very promising.
The Versa / Almera is based on the common modular family (CMF-B) of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which Nissan qualifies as platform V, also present in the fifth generation of Micra / March.
The sedan also adopts some hatchback design elements, including the boomerang-shaped headlights, which join with the brand's iconic grille, v-motion. The rectangular fog lights, inserted into the corners of the deck, are remarkable at the front, while bold folds can be seen from the grille and leading to the B pillars.
In profile, the design of the Versa / Almera is a little more moderate compared to that of the Micra / March. The lines of characters are not so strange and the position of the rear door handles is more conventional. Likewise, the C-pillars of boot are not as high in comparison, but they are obscured to create a "floating roof" appearance.
At the rear, boomerangs continue to be a form of inspiration, as evidenced by the Altima-inspired design of taillight groups. Their new shape also differs from the vertically aligned units used on the outgoing Versa / Almera. Elsewhere, opening the boot squared should help practicality.
Like the exterior, the interior of the new Versa / Almera has undergone a thorough overhaul, more in line with the Kicks crossover. Nissan calls this arrangement of the "Gliding Wing" dashboard, and this design element is also found in the latest Maxima and Altima.
The touchscreen infotainment system, bundled with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, is in the center of the dashboard. Just above are two thinner air vents than before, while a simpler air-conditioning control panel takes its place underneath, thus replacing the dial configuration of the air conditioner. ;former. In the driver's seat, the steering wheel presents a new design similar to that of the Kicks and Leaf. Both models also seem to lend the instrument cluster half, with an analog dial to the right, while a multi-info digital display occupies the left position.
In terms of equipment, Nissan says its new B-segment sedan features such features as keyless entry and engine start, automatic climate control, heated front seats and, most importantly, the Nissan Safety Shield. 360.
The last element is a series of safety and driver assistance systems including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic rear braking, lane departure warning and assistance in case of strong trajectory. Additional features such as Blind Spot Warning, Reverse Cross Traffic Alert, Smart Driving Alert and Intelligent Cruise Control are also available.
In terms of engines, Nissan has only one: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine developing 122 bhp and 154 Nm of torque, with the choice of a five-speed manual or an Xtronic CVT system.
