The law firm Skrine has denied today that his lawyers are those who would have hired on Monday the group that accosted the worshipers in a temple in Subang Jaya.
In a statement released today, the firm said that although it is acting on behalf of One City Development Bhd in the context of a civil proceeding involving the possession of the land of Sri Maha temple Mariamman, he was not involved in the alleged recruitment of "thugs".
"We categorically affirm that we are not the lawyers mentioned by the Minister of the Interior. None of our lawyers were arrested by the police, "the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Interior Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said it was established thatdeveloper's lawyers"Hired a group of men to break into the temple to take over the property as part of the developer's land transfer efforts.
"The interior minister is also reported to have said that the lawyers who paid for thugs were among the 21 arrested by the police.
"We have absolutely no knowledge of the alleged recruitment of thugs and condemn in the strongest terms any such action," the cabinet said in a statement.
Skrine claimed that his work as a developer's lawyer was and will remain strictly in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, another law firm, MM. Thomas Philip, denied in a separate statement that he was acting for One City.
"Thomas Philip were lawyers on file for One City regarding the lawsuit in Shah Alam High Court No. 21-353-1996, which was resolved by consent order dated March 11, 2014.
"On December 30, 2015, a city asked a new law firm to take over the conduct and all business arising from the consent order.
"In this regard, it's been three years since December 2015 that Messrs. Thomas Philip have stopped acting for One City," says the firm's press release.
