Honda unveiled its latest SUV, the 2019 Honda Passport, featuring 5 seats and a standard V6 engine. Making its debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2019 passport fits into the Honda product line between the three-row driver and the smaller CR-V.
Its design borrows the two existing SUVs. The standard 20-inch wheels and a matte black grille make it look good, as do the flared wheel arches. It also climbs higher, with additional ground clearance of 0.5 inches over the front-wheel drive passport and 1.1 inches over the all-wheel drive version.
There are also blackout and black lights, as well as LED lights. Under the sheet is Honda's Global Light Truck platform – which also underpins the Pilot and Ridgeline – with a monocoque construction. The four-wheel independent suspension receives MacPherson struts at the front and an independent multi-link rear.
Under the hood, a standard 3.5-liter V6. It's good for 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Honda combines it with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The FWD and AWD models are equipped with Honda's intelligent traction management system, with settings for Normal and Snow. Passport AWD models also add sand, snow and mud modes.
The V6 leaves the SUV capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds of front-drive passport and up to 5,000 pounds of all-wheel drive. A multi-view camera is standard, with a bird's eye view. Honda also adds standard active safety Honda Sensing, as well as LED lights at the front and rear, Smart Start and Smart Entry, as well as three-zone air conditioning.
Four versions will be proposed: Sport, EX-L, Touring and Elite. Elite will have AWD as standard. EX-L and above models feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The chest offers 41.2 cu. ft. of space, expandable to 77.9 cu. ft. with the rear seats folding flat. There is a 2.5 cu. ft. basement storage bin, too. Honda will also have a wide variety of passport accessories. This will include functional elements, such as roof boxes and a roof basket; racks for bicycles, kayaks and skis or snowboards; and weather covers for the interior.
The price of the Honda Passport 2019 has not been confirmed yet. The new 5-seater SUV will go on sale in the United States early next year.
