Petron Malaysia has introduced a new cashless payment option for gasoline, in collaboration with WeChat Pay Malaysia. Starting today, customers will be able to use the digital wallet service to pay for gas at nearly 200 Petron stations, and the service will be rolled out across the country.
The WeChat Pay feature is located in the WeChat app and users simply need to flash the app's QR code to the countertop terminal to make a payment. Petron claims to be the first gas station operator to introduce such a feature in Malaysia.
"This collaboration with Petron will further encourage the growth of cashless payments in Malaysia," said Jason Siew, managing director of WeChat Pay Malaysia. "We will continue to strategically expand our collaboration for WeChat Pay to provide greater flexibility, access and choice for customers, while enabling an easy and secure payment experience."
Choong Kum Choy, Head of Retail Operations at Petron Malaysia, added, "We are confident that customers will benefit from this new, secure and easy-to-use e-wallet experience. Customer convenience has always been our priority and the partnership with WeChat Pay Malaysia allows us to offer secure and broader payment choices to our valued customers. "
The collaboration was made possible by payment provider Revenue Monster, the first designated merchant acquirer of WeChat Pay in Malaysia to facilitate WeChat Pay transactions.
