PETALING JAYA: A court of appeal issued a three-day pre-trial detention order for two people arrested for damaging the MCT tower during the Tuesday riots near the site of a Hindu temple in Subang Jaya.

Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham has authorized the police to extend the detention of two suspects aged between 30 years for the purposes of investigations under Article 148 of the Penal Code for rioting. as of today.

The magistrate also made interim orders against eight individuals who allegedly participated in the protest at Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam Temple, in USJ 25, Subang Jaya.

Ariffin also did not let the eight members stand for four days until Sunday.

To date, police have arrested 30 people involved in riots that left 23 vehicles damaged or destroyed and a firefighter fighting for his life after being assaulted by rioters.

Among those arrested is a lawyer allegedly hired by the property developer One City Development Sdn Bhd and the authorities have accused of hiring thugs to forcibly occupy the temple site, triggering the first acts. of violence.
