KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A technician was sentenced to 17 years in prison and 10 canes by Ampang Court Wednesday in New York (November 28) after being found guilty of violating his daughter-in-law two years ago.
Judge Suzana Hussin sentenced the 28-year-old man after finding that the defense did not raise a reasonable doubt as to the prosecution's case. .
The court, however, allowed the suspension of the sentence, pending an appeal to the High Court, but increased the bail of the man from 10,000 to 20,000 RM.
The technician was charged with committing the offense committed on the girl, then aged 14 years and seven months, in the living room of a Pandan Indah home at 11 pm in February 2016.
The accused, who is now divorced from the victim's mother, was charged under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to 30 years and flogging at least 10 times, on conviction.
Deputy Attorney General Goh Ai Rene was prosecuted, with the accused being represented by his lawyer, Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff. – Bernama
