The government will not compromise any attempt to create tension

Deputy Prime Minister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wants all parties to refrain from creating racial tensions in the country.

She added that any incident resulting in the destruction of property and injuries must be dealt with immediately and completely eliminated.

"Do not create racial tensions … they will not be compromised," she told the Malaysian media at the end of her official visit to Qatar today.

Commenting on riots at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Wan Azizah, also Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, expressed sadness at the incident that caused the death of 39, a firefighter.

She stated that such an incident should not have happened because Malaysia was a peaceful country.

"Do not let this incident pose a threat to the country's harmony … negative elements will only hurt our country as a whole.

"Nobody is going to enjoy it, we are all going to lose," she said.

Wan Azizah also urged all parties to remain calm and not to exacerbate the situation by transmitting unverified information.

She stressed that the government would not accept any compromise with any party trying to take advantage of the incident to create racial tensions among the people of this country.

"All this kind of thing has to be dealt with and eliminated completely … we have to save the situation and not aggravate the situation," she said.
