Three parties submit a memorandum to the Minister of the Interior

MIC Youth, Makkal Sakti and representatives of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple at USJ 25, Subang Jaya, today sent a memorandum to the Minister of the Interior demanding that harsh measures be taken at the same time. Against those responsible for riots at the temple.

The note was delivered by the MIC's youth leader, R Thinalan, to the main deputy secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Wan Muhammad Rumaizi, at the entrance of the ministry, here today.

Thinalan, speaking to reporters, said the temple issue needed to be urgently addressed as it attracted the attention of international media and could give a negative image of the country.

Police arrested 21 people as part of the riot at the temple, which occurred early Monday morning, followed by another episode early today.

The riot took place in the temple compound around 2 am Monday, as a result of an altercation between two factions. Some of them went crazy and burned 23 vehicles outside the sanctuary.

Another uproar erupted earlier in the day when the rioters burned two vehicles on the highway next to the temple, lit a vehicle near the sanctuary and damaged a fire engine.

Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, aged 24, was seriously injured during the incident, within the unit of assistance to the emergency services of the fire department and the rescue.
