Ford teases the Mustang unexpectedly, what is it?

Ford buried a teaser for an unknown Mustang in a promotional video for the automaker. Ford wants you to know that it intends to build the future, not just to talk about it, but that we are more interested in what this mysterious Mustang might be like.

At the 0:37 mark of the video, the Mustang is fully visible and we know it's kind of a Mustang because of the highlighted badge placed in the center of the grid. The shady teaser recalls the current design of the sixth-generation Mustang, but the folds look smoother and the overall look of this car is less erratic. It is worth mentioning that the opening of the grille is filled with a plastic piece, as on many electric cars. The teaser also comes after the leak of the Mustang Shelby GT500 2020, but it's not the same car.

Driving Authority made contact with Ford for a comment on the unannounced Mustang. A spokesman simply said: "It's a glimpse of the future. We are excited to show you more at the right time. "

Thus, Ford has acknowledged its existence, which means that it will probably be officially presented in the future. So what is it?

This could be a taste of the seventh-generation Mustang, due out in 2021. It is more likely, however, that it could foreshadow a Mustang hybrid, which the automaker has planned to debut in 2020.

The new Mustang generation is expected to be incorporated into Ford's new modular platform, shared with the upcoming Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. So, rumors have run about the possibility of a Mustang AWD, which the new platform will support. Currently, the pony car is based on a dedicated architecture, making it the only modern muscle car to do it. The Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger both use modular platforms shared with other vehicles.

With regard to the Mustang hybrid, the electrified pony wagon will likely be a sixth generation Mustang. Judging by its introduction date in 2020, it will be released before the all-new Mustang. The hybrid powertrain should provide the V-8 with power with potentially more torque.

Our best guess is that the Mustang mystery presents the future hybrid model. We will just have to wait for Ford to be ready to share more.
