How to stop the new list of chat and friends of Steam from automatic opening

The new Steam Chat is here and it's really great, even though it's not going to attract PC Discord players. But there is one aspect that is not so hot: every time you open Steam, your friends list and the new chat automatically open in another window. Arg . The options menu does not offer obvious tools to prevent it from happening, but fortunately you can stop opening the new Steam Chat when you launch Steam in different ways.

The first method is simple. By default, Steam is supposed to remember your chat status when you start the application. So, if you do not want Steam Chat to start when you open Steam, close your friends list before closing Steam. Easy peasy. This method worked like a charm for me, but Steam community messages suggest that it's not always reliable for everyone. If the cat appears when you open Steam, you can move to a more radical step: change the shortcut target path on the desktop

It should open with the Shortcut tab in the view. You want to edit the path Target that points to the place where you installed Steam. Leave all the information already filled in as is, but at the end of the string, add a space and then this text:

-nochatui -nofriendsui -silent

Click OK to save your changes. The next time you open Steam, Chat and your friends list will not show up anymore and will not bother you anymore, although you can still open it manually by clicking the "Friends & Chat" button "in the lower right corner of the Steam interface.
