Hyundai N autonomous sports car locked up

Hyundai plunged into the field of performance cars with the birth of its N division, which gave way to the N i30 and Veloster N.

Now the official tuner of the Korean automaker is ready to launch a notch with the launch of his own sports car.

In an interview with EVO published Friday, Hyundai Man in charge of high-performance applications and motor sport, Thomas Schemera, confirmed that a Hyundai N Sport Autonomous " I can tell you [Hyundai N boss] Albert Biermann and I are interested in hot things and we have ideas for a halo model, "he said. "Rest assured, we come to something."

Biermann, who before joining Hyundai was a BMW M engineer, revealed earlier this year that his engineers played with a number of concepts, including engines. You will recall that Hyundai N has built a handful of mid-engine cars for testing purposes.

Hyundai R & D boss Yang Woong Chul also commented on the mysterious sports car. He confirmed earlier this year the existence of a sports car with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. He also said that Hyundai N was in charge of development.

The maintenance of a Hyundai sports car goes back several years. Hyundai and students from the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin even played with the idea in 2015 introducing the PassoCorto concept. And with the Genesis Coupe that's no longer in production, there's definitely a void in the Hyundai lineup that the front-wheel drive Veloster will never fill. A Hyundai N sports car might be just the ticket.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that the model will come soon. Hyundai N will first launch its cars, like the next Fastback i30 N and a potential Kona N.
