The EU imports 266 billion euros of energy a year today. But this bill can be drastically reduced if the EU supports a goal of climate neutrality by 2050, according to the European Commission.

In particular, dependence on imported oil and gas will be reduced, according to calculations by the European Commission. Instead, the EU will make the most of energy from renewable sources.

According to estimates, the share of imported energy will fall to around 20% by 2050, against 55% today.
