The contract concerns nine roll-on-roll-off vessels. The ships will be 238 meters long and will be able to carry 7,800 meters of rolling units, which is equivalent to about 500 trailers, according to a press release.
The ships will be built at the Nanjing Jinling shipyard in China and delivered to the Italian group Grimaldi. The ships become the fifth generation of Grimaldi Green, becoming hybrids by combining fossil fuels to operate with battery power when ships are in port.
Rolls-Royce will provide steering gear and a system called Promas, which incorporates rows and propellers in a system to optimize the hydrodynamic effect. The Promas system generates less energy loss and consumes less fuel.
The value of the contract is 300 million NOK. Delivery begins in 2019 until the last ship is delivered in 2021.
