The government's proposal that electric cars should benefit from a minimum 50% discount on municipal parking spaces is the majority in Storting.
The traffic law and parking regulations are now amended to ensure that zero emission vehicles, ie electric cars and hydrogen cars, must benefit from a reduction. 50% minimum on parking compared to vehicles powered by fossil fuels.
"We think it's important to encourage people to choose cars and environmentally friendly solutions," Parliamentary Secretary Helge Orten (H) told the Newspaper News Agency (ANB).
The proposal applies to municipal pay parking spaces. The proposal implies that the municipalities themselves can choose between 50% and 100% discount.
Until 2017, owners of electric cars could park for free on municipal parking spaces. Since then, municipalities have done what they wanted, while waiting for new rules.
When the Storting Transport Committee issued its recommendation recently, only the center party voted against it.
"The proposal will reduce the ability of municipalities to prioritize the best environmental initiatives in the local community, and it is mainly incorrect to provide municipal parking spaces with non-private framework conditions," said parliamentary representative Siv Mossleth ( Sp) to ANB.
