The heat occupied a large part of the country. This weekend, we expect more than 30 degrees in many places.
This has led to a chaotic situation for many of the larger electronics chains.
– Thursday, we sold more than two fans per minute. There is huge demand for fans, air conditioning and heat pumps, says Christian Kamhaug, Communications Manager at Elkjøp Nordic.
Has sold over 10,000 fans
According to Elkjøp, more than 10,000 fans have been sold in Norway in recent months. In recent days, the chain has sold thousands of refrigeration products.
– It's pretty wild that there are two fans per minute. It is clear that Norwegian homes need air to cool down. Norwegian homes are built to keep the heat inside, so she does not keep the windows open, says Kamhaug.
In Tønsberg too, many people are looking for fans in the heat.
– Customers come to see us immediately and ask where are the fans. Many are desperate.
That's what Einar Michael Princeton, head of appliance sales at Power in Tønsberg, said.
Better prepared than last year
The record of last summer has led many stores to be sold early to fans.
– In the end, we only had the most expensive ones left. But people were so desperate that they were buying anything for as long as they looked cool, Princeton said.
However, this year, Power and Elkjøp announce that fans and air conditioning are still in stock.
– We had a little last year, but we bought a lot more. There are a number of stores that are exhausted, but we can make sure there are products on the way, says Kamhaug.
He thinks that many left early because of the hot summer of last year.
– April was much better this year. Many who had not bought last year went to the store early to buy refrigeration products this year.
In 2018, the Elkjøp channel sold 20,000 fans. Kamhaug does not rule out new sales records if other warmer days occur this year.
