AP proposals can become dramatic for plug-in hybrids

Plug-in hybrids have been one of the most sought after types of cars in Norway for many years. The reason is largely tax relief, which makes these cars extremely affordable compared to cars that run "right"
gasoline or diesel.

At the same time, there is no doubt that those who drive with many short trips and charge the battery can often drive every week without the need to refuel traditional fuel.

In this way, this type of car also contributes significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

But now, there are threatening clouds on the horizon. Not surprisingly, these are charges that can make the plug-in hybrid almost unusually overnight.

The Labor Party is among those who want to fight against billable hybrids:

– The proposed increase of the ad hoc tax in the PA's alternative budget will make it very difficult for specially attributable hybrids. It shows the calculations we made, says the spokesman of the Party of Progress,
Morten Stordalen.

"With Labor's agreement, the best selling hybrid hybrid vehicle in Norway, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, will cost more than $ 40,000 more," he said.

"The Aps tax proposals will greatly slow down the sales of plug-in hybrids," said Morten Stordalen (Frp).

Norway at the top of Europe

– Why is this happening?

– This is due to the fact that Ap doubles the limit value for the deduction of total weight, from 50 km to 100 km, for driving in electric mode. These are not paying hybrids that are close to today. Outlander is among the best, with a range
54 km away. This will undoubtedly lead to a net slowdown in the sale of plug-in hybrids, which is very unfortunate, Stordalen said.

"Plug-in hybrids help reduce emissions, especially in small towns and densely populated areas – and improve air quality.Number of people depend on clean electricity activities in their daily driving, he added.

It's a car that can be a big success next year: the Ladbar version of the Volvo V60. But there must also be no major tax increase on this type of car.

Person almost 100 kilometers

– This is part of Ap's series of unpredictable tax policies. Ten years ago everyone was encouraged to buy diesel. A few years later, diesel was a nuisance. Now these are the plug-in hybrids that you have to reverse.

– Where should the deduction limit be in their opinion?

"I mean that a total deduction limit of 50 km makes sense, since it's a stretch that many will manage to drive entirely electric on a daily basis." If you set the limit to 100 km, no car a day can cope with it;
Morten Stordalen said no one was around.

In a month, more cars become more expensive

Higher fuel consumption

Broom asked Svein Roald Hansen, a member of the Labor Finance Committee, to comment on the proposal. He answers this way:

"Some have criticized the fact that the benefits of plug-in hybrid vehicles over petrol / diesel cars are too high compared to the actual mileage of the battery." Rechargeable Hybrids with Relatively Short Battery Mileage,
CO2 emissions will be higher than pure fossil fuel cars because the battery increases the weight and therefore the fuel consumption when not in use. So we adjusted that in our budget proposal.

Build on the debate

"Next year, I guess the government will present the results of the new WLTP measures, so that emissions are safer in the charging system, including for plug-in hybrids.

– What facts do you draw from the statement "higher CO2 emissions than pure fossil fuel cars"? Official consumption figures may not be – the reported CO2 emissions for plug-in hybrids are exceptionally low?

"The proposal is based on a contribution to the debate on rechargeable hybrids, and the old measurement method is no longer reliable," says Svein Roald Hansen.

He quotes general press reports that, among other things, plug-in hybrids "consume much more when the battery is exhausted and the gasoline or diesel engine takes over."

A car type is at the top of the list of favorites

There is hardly any knowledge available

"But should a proposal that could have such consequences not be based on concrete facts?

"Ideally, it would be desirable, but the diesel scandal has shown that what we thought would be documentable emissions is not the case, and we must now hope that WLTP provides reliable and credible knowledge.

For many years, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been a bestseller among the best-selling rechargeable hybrids on the market. For this great practical utility car, the results of alternative budget proposals from APS can be dramatic:

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the first rechargeable SUV in the world when it arrived. The model has been a major success in the Norwegian market.

Punish the customers

– Doubling the range required for plug-in hybrids is extremely dramatic. That would likely mean a price increase above 40,000 euros for our outlander PHEV, without having calculated it exactly at the present time, says CEO, Rune Gjerstad.
at Mitsubishi Motors, at Broom.

– With an increase in the required range of 10 miles, this would also mean a noticeable weight gain in the car to meet such a requirement with current battery technology. In practice, a tightening of fees on PHEVs will penalize customers
who would otherwise have switched to such a car from his old diesel car. The current Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a combined fuel consumption of 0.18 l / mil and CO2 emissions of 40 g / km according to the new WLTP standard. If it's not ecological,
so I do not really know, "says Gjerstad.

Lack of predictability

– Do you have any experience data on average consumption over time for the PHEV model?

"We do not have any data of this type, but there is a slight doubt about the fact that the plug-in hybrid consumes less fuel under normal conditions of use than a similar car. with a pure petrol engine, "he said.

– The proposed tax change, in our opinion, is not a correct measure. Many are in need of an SUV of this size with four-wheel drive, plenty of space and no restrictions of autonomy. What we want to achieve with a new
According to Gjerstad, the price of cars is increasing for a few years longer with their old diesel car. The authorities' lack of predictability with regard to cars and car costs is explained above:
