Hello and thank you for the interesting questions. Prove that there are more people wondering.

My answer is: Yes, it's really the law. But not completely without reservations. It is assumed that they are mounted and connected properly and that there are of course approved lamps.

You do not say anything about the type of car you own or where they should be on the roof. If you ride them to the front of an ordinary touring car – or behind the platform bar of a pickup truck – make a significant difference.

It is a fact that the assembly of the extras must not prevent the view. Next, we are not talking only about the physical location of the lamps, because mounting them on the roof is no problem. We are talking about what is called light beam. If you have lamps on the roof that scatter light, this bulb can almost become blind. Then, it prevents the sight and is illegal.

By mounting the lamps further, as in the pick-up example that I mentioned, the risks of lightning are much less important and can therefore be legal. Because then the roof will remove too much light, but at the same time it will weaken the effect of the lamps.

It's hard to be concrete here. Simply because the regulation is a little worn and that it varies from one case to another – depending on the location and the way the current lamps distribute the light. There is a big difference to that, also on the auxiliary beam, or 1000 meters. It depends entirely on the lamp and the optics.

I think even if you want to get enough light by mounting the lamps on the traditional space located on the bumper or in front of the grill. I think it's recommendable if you want to be on the safe side and avoid trouble / discussion.

The true lights that give the light you are looking for and the proper adjustment of these headlights as well as the original headlights will help you a lot and will be approved. So that's my recommendation!
