"We are glad that no one was injured, but it was a very serious accident and this should not happen. We have now followed the course of events with the contractor, so we have reduced the risk of recurrence, "said project manager Odd Inge Bardal at Bypakke Bodø.
This is what the Norwegian Public Roads Administration writes in a press release.
They nevertheless point out that the routine around the blasting and that the warning seems to be followed. But the reason was that the ointment was too strong.
– The mountain is always assessed before blasting and, in this case, the assessment was not enough. The way in which the mountain was cracked due to anterior blasting and natural cracks has not been sufficiently taken into account.
With the contractor, routines and working methods have been reviewed and tightened. In the future, special attention will be given to the assessment of mountain conditions.
"There is always a danger of blasting, so that a safety zone is always created so that people do not get too close in. In this case, the people who were in the residential building concerned were invited. to stay at the back of the house during the shooting. This is a common practice, says Bardal.
The contractor will continue the work in Lauvåsveien during the weekend.
– We understand that people may be worried, but we take safety seriously. At the same time, it is important to respect the obstacles and information of the guards. Those who live in the nearest houses will be contacted before blasting and will be informed of how to treat them, said project manager Odd Inge Bardal.
