Confirmed: Rivian's SUV and electric pickup arrive in Norway

US Rivian this week launched two electric cars. One is an SUV and the other a pickup. The two big battles, which are perhaps more natural on American than European roads.

But cars arrive in Norway, confirms the manufacturer.

"The vehicles will arrive in Norway in 2021," said Ken Shuman, head of communications at Rivian, TU Delft.

Both cars can already be pre-ordered by customers in North America, but not elsewhere. This will change already next year.

Shuman says the Norwegians will be able to pre-order the car in early 2019.

Today, US customers have to pay $ 1,000 to make room for them. This equates to 8500 Norwegian kroner without it being confirmed that it is the amount they want to take in Norway.

Many not yet known

On top of that, Rivian does not have the world with details to share. We ask them if they plan to sell the car through regular dealerships, order them directly on the web and what are their service network projects in Norway, but we will answer them. that the details will come to us later.

The first cars are delivered to the United States by 2020.

Rivian is not a well known name in the world of the automobile. Perhaps more because they have not sold a single car until now.

Autonews however writes that they have funding of up to $ 450 million and employ employees of Fiat Chrysler and McLaren. 450 people work in the company.

Let's be 35 years old

The company is led by founder, RJ Scaringe. He is 35 years old and founded the company just after his studies.

Rivian plans to launch a car since its inception in 2009 and has already announced in 2011 to have cars equipped with an internal combustion engine. These have never become one of them.

On Monday, however, they drew the R1T model. This is an American pickup – a wide, long and massive ground clearance, with large wheels and a spacious cargo platform.

It will be powered by a battery of 105 to 180 kilowatts and will have a range of more than 64 miles.

And on Tuesday, they launched an SUV, built on the same platform, with most features, with the exception of the cargo plane, and seven instead of five.

Do both sell car and subscription

Both vehicles are aimed at customers who enjoy outdoor activities and, in an interview with Autonews, Scaringe says that they see Land Rover as their closest competitor.

Rivian is betting, at least in the US, on a business model allowing it to control the customer experience. They will both sell the cars and offer them as subscription services.

It is assumed that Rivian does not sell cars through dealers. But car dealerships in the United States operate slightly differently than Norway and generally have more power.

Nevertheless, it is not unlikely that Rivian will choose to create its own service and sales network in Norway, as Tesla did.

What R1S and R1T are going to cost in Norway is currently unknown. In the United States, the starting price is estimated at about $ 70,000 before tax deduction.
