Since 2014, there has been a significant reduction in the proportion of 15-year-olds who drink soda or soda five times a week or more often.

It presents the preliminary figures of the European Assessment of School Health (HEVAS) presented as part of the presentation by the Directorate General of the report on the evolution of food in Norway.

The biggest drop in girls

The reduction of shower drops is particularly high in girls. In the survey, about one in ten 15 year old girls responds that she drinks soda or soft drinks five times a week or more often.

This represents a 36% decrease since 2014.

For boys, the corresponding drop is only 4%. 23% of the boys surveyed say they drink soda five times a week or more often.

At the same time, the proportion of 15-year-old boys who consume vegetables each day has increased by 14% since 2014. For girls, the corresponding increase is 17%.

Eat more vegetables

Over the last ten years, the population's sugar intake has declined sharply. This has occurred in parallel with the fact that fruit and vegetable consumption has reached a historically high level.

Between 2000 and 2016, vegetable consumption increased from 59 to 81 kilos per person per year.

Nevertheless, we are still far from the Health Directorate's goal of increasing by 20% the consumption of vegetables, fruits and berries by 2021.

Worried about the decline in fish consumption

The new report also shows that fish consumption in the population continues to decline. Irritating, says the Health Directorate.
