"It's very disturbing," said Jan Tore Sanner, Minister of Knowledge and Integration.

The Education Branch has examined how this has happened with vocational students who have applied for an internship (formerly called Apprenticeship) in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, there were nearly 29,000 candidates for learning.

Recent figures show that only 58% of young people of immigrant origin have taken an apprenticeship. Among the other young people, nearly 75% of those who applied for an apprenticeship.

Immigrants are the ones who struggle the most to get an education. In addition, the figures show that deceased immigrants have a higher absentee rate and lower scores compared to other young people.

It is the learning company that decides who will do the learning. The Education Branch will now immerse itself in the statistics to try to find the reason.

Composite problem

Mohammed Abdul-Manan Akram (17) is a student at the Etterstad High School. He believes that immigrant death statistics are poorly reflected because of several factors.

– If there are problems at home, you may not have any profit and do not be motivated to spend time in school. In addition, the environment and the quality of integration are something to say.

He also believes that the problems may be due to attitudes and prejudices about immigrant disease.

"Many believe that immigrant youth, especially boys, need to be part of a gang environment, and it can be difficult to meet.

Karmen Kader (18) also goes to Etterstad High School. She also believes that family relationships play an important role.

– Many people have problems at home and are in the wrong environment. It also affects efforts at school, which makes education difficult.

The fact that more girls than boys from immigration are learning is probably due to different expectations.

"Boys are more often free and are late for the outdoors, making it more difficult to get up in the morning, while girls often do not get out late.

– Numbers concerned

Jan Tore Sanner, Minister of Knowledge and Integration, believes the figures are troubling.

"We find that there is a big difference between the number of immigrant children learning in places of learning and the number of young people." We now want to get close to that and find the reason for that. we can take the appropriate measures, "said the minister.

– The analysis shows that the deceased immigrants have a higher absentee rate and lower marks than the other young people. Why do you think it's like that?

"There are big differences between all students and you should be cautious before categorizing them. The analysis we received from the Education Branch indicates that absence and grades have a lot to say when of learning a place, whatever the origin, says Sanner.

Jan Tore Sanner and Erna Solberg inaugurate an exhibition on future vocation topics

The Minister of Knowledge and Integration, Jan Tore Sanner, worries about figures from the Directorate of Education. He thinks that the public, schools and industry must take steps to train more young people. In August, Sanner inaugurated the "Future Professions" exhibition at the Oslo Technical Museum, alongside Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

He thinks it's important to learn more young people.

"We find that young people who do not follow an apprenticeship are easier to give up, so it is important that we get to know more, that they are complete and consistent, and then more people get to work. manage with their own income.
