New Kia Soul was shown at the LA Motor Show late last night, at the Norwegian time.
In terms of design, much of the same applies, with the same box shape, but with a somewhat rounded silhouette. Inside, the interior also reminds me of the big brother Kia Niro as the soul of today.
Nearly 500 kilometers?
The car generally has the same key specifications as Niro and Group Sister Hyundai Kona, with a battery of 64 kWh, 204 horsepower and a torque of 395 Nm.
The range is not known, but the slightly larger Niro compares a range of 485 km to the WLTP standard. The soul is easier, but its shape probably makes it less aerodynamic, so it is not unlikely that the official range is about the same level. The realistic range will probably be a little less.
According to Kia, the driving performance has improved and the engine power has increased significantly compared to the current model of 109 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque. There is also a cushion on the rear wheels.
Better security systems
The car has four driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Eco +. The new steering wheel controls allow you to control the amount of regenerative braking and can also be used to stop the car completely.
New security systems are also in place, with collision alert, file change warning, file support, fatigue warning and cross traffic warning.
This is something that has made today 's soul even more obsolete compared to today' s cars because it does not have any features. other systems than the rear camera and parking sensors.
Modifies the charge socket
Kia also does it on e-Niro and switches the charging system for Soul. Where previously Chademo was used for fast loading, it is now the CCS that is selected. Type 1 has also been replaced by Type 2 for a normal charge. The freight port is still on the front, but the luka has become much smaller than before.
The charging capacity is not published, but the battery is liquid cooled and Soul, like Niro, can probably be expected to charge up to 100 kilowatts of energy.
The infotainment system is also new, with a 10.25-inch touch screen and support for Apple Airplay and Android Auto. According to the press release, the car will come in two variants, Soul EV and Soul EV Designer Collection, but Kia says that all specifications apply in the US and that European specifications will be released later.
The Designer Collection variant will have two-tone lacquer, Harman Kardon audio system with 10 speakers, wireless charger and leather steering wheel.
April or May
Mette Simonsen Sauge, head of information at Kia Norway, told Tek.no that she did not know when the first cars would be on the road, but she hopes to be launched in April or May. Then the final range will also be published.
The prices are not yet known, but we can mention that the current Soul with a battery of 30 kWh costs nearly 270,000 dollars in the Exclusive variant, while a 64-hp E-Niro first-rate starts 378,000.
The latter, however, is waiting for several years.
