The technology used in new cars requires more power, so the car battery needs to be serviced before and during the winter.

– If you use the engine heater, the battery charger and the cabin fan, you also save the car battery. When the car's battery is charged, emissions are reduced. In addition, it saves the engine over time, "said Hans Ole Høidal, country manager at Defa Norway.

– Do people choose engine heaters for environmental reasons?

"Someone does, but most people choose it for their comfort and to protect the engine from their car.It is more comfortable to ride in a warm car without ice in cold weather," said Høidal.

Tire pressure and constant speed

You can also save fuel and emissions by knowing how to drive NAF.

– Plan your driving and expect it to happen on the road. Get up fast and get the most consistent speed. Also check the tire pressure on the car. This means that you will spend less fuel and emit less emissions, and it will cost less, "says Nils Sødal.

"Adaptive cruise control is probably the most relevant for highway driving," said Nils Sødal, senior communications advisor at NAF.

It is about raising awareness

At Sparebank1, they analyzed their customers who signed smart insurance. A type of insurance where you drive with a smart plug in your car. It records in particular the distance traveled, the procedure to follow and, for example, the time of inactivity of the car. This can be read in an application on the mobile.

If driving is prudent, car insurance can be reduced by 15%. Idling does not help reduce insurance.

– For us, it is the conscience. If you leave the car idling so that ice and snow freezes instead of brushing your head, I think it does not matter that we can wake our users up. Such behavior pollutes more than necessary, says Svein Skovly, head of innovation at Sparebank1 Insurance.

In addition, it is not allowed and may fine you up to 10,000 crowns.
