From the beginning of the year, two new environmentally friendly bins will be installed in the Brekstad – Valset region. We have been waiting for this for a long time. Many years of strong traffic growth have clearly shown the need for better materials and ferry routes tailored to the needs of business travelers and private travelers.
So many of us were surprised when AtB reported early in the fall of the route offer when new ferries were in place. Harald Storrønning, Head of Division at AtB, said the first start of Brekstad and the last of Valset would complete without the inclusion of vehicles or passengers. The reason was the regulation of crew time and we were told that if the aforementioned departures were to take place, it would be necessary to bring cars and passports. Many of us were opposed to this and we were promised an answer from AtB at this stage.
Although having spared from the municipality of Ørland, AtB did not answer this question.

The reasoning of AtB
AtB also motivated trips with empty ferry departure. A ferry starting in the morning and a ferry B ending with the last evening trip, which will cause difficulties for the ferry to Brekstad if the last ferry carries cars. This is not the case either. A ferry starts and ends in the schedules presented by AtB. With regard to the regulation of crew working time, there is no difference if you drive the first and the last trip with or without vehicles and passengers, it is the only 39, approval of such a trip.
AtB has now stated that the company was to benefit from compensation of NOK 55,000 per year if the mentioned ferry times were to go with cars and passengers. This is due to the fact that Fjord1, the operator, requires compensation.
The reason is that when publishing the call for tenders for the connection, B-ferry was supposed to be on Valset, but that the cost was too high to compensate for the weather conditions. That's why Fjord1 got compensation for being able to go without passengers.

Make money
We can do a little math that shows that ATB is making money on these trips.
The ferry from Brekstad to Valset is popular in the morning for trailers and people arriving in Trondheim for lessons and meetings, as well as departure for return at 23:00.
The ferry takes 52 cars, say that there are 25 cars in annual average with a price of 100 kr per. travel x 25 cars x 2 trips.
5000 kr x 150 days per year = 750000. That is 200 000 half-filled ferries. AtB really serves that.

Lack of knowledge
I hope that AtB management will understand the madness of driving with empty ferries across the Trondheimsfjord and that this will change at best for users on both sides of the fjord. This is the case, so it is the greatest lack of knowledge and skills of AtB management. It also shows that the same management is unable to listen to the affected municipalities and give its opinion. This also indicates that AtB does not have the necessary dialogue with the operators, in this case Fjord1.
For me, as a politician, it is obvious that AtB, as a 100% county municipal corporation, is governed by such a bad track as we see in this case. The AtB management must at least understand that it is the operators, the shipping companies and the shipping company that can do the job. Now society is very misleading to the politicians in our riding, who own them.
Whether it is a clarification or a clean up in the direction of AtB, it is not up to me to decide, but I am not sure. expect management members of the company to immediately show that they can navigate better than was the case in the present case. If that does not happen, the decision makers in our riding are in a bad light.
